At Durrington High School, we believe our responsibility extends far beyond the classroom. Our intent is to ensure that pupils leave us not only with strong academic achievements but with a sophisticated understanding of the complex world around them. We empower our students to not just articulate our school values of kindness, aspiration, perseverance and pride, but to embody them as they transition into the next step on their journey.
This ambition is underpinned by the seamless integration of British Values across every curriculum area. While this is a cornerstone of our Social and Moral education, it is also the heartbeat of our ‘Period 1’ programme. Through our ‘In the News’ sessions and bespoke assembly schedules, we provide students with the cultural capital and knowledge needed to make informed, rational decisions. We do not shy away from difficult or controversial topics; instead, we provide a factual, balanced foundation that allows students to exercise critical thinking and form their own independent judgements.
In a rapidly evolving global landscape, we pride ourselves on a curriculum that is dynamic and responsive. By encouraging both staff and students to act as co-creators of our personal development offer, we ensure our teaching remains relevant to the challenges of the 21st century.
As part of our mission to ensure Durrington students leave us prepared for the next steps on their journey, we place great emphasis on the importance of a high-quality careers programme which ensures that students develop the essential skills required in the work place, while also having plentiful and meaningful encounters with further education providers and local employers. By supporting students to realise the potential avenues available to them beyond Durrington we hope to ensure that all students move on to the next step of their post 16 journey which is both appropriate to them but also challenges them to succeed and be ambitious in regards to what they can achieve.
Ultimately, we believe that a Durrington education prepares students to be informed, resilient, and active participants in society long after they leave us.
