Admissions

Welcome to Durrington High School.  My name is John Fuller, I am Deputy Headteacher and delighted to be our lead for student admissions. Moving to a new school can be a big decision to make and hence we are here to help you and your child through every step of the process.

If you are thinking of applying for a place at Durrington, I’d recommend that you first get in contact and come and visit the school. The opportunity to meet, show you round and answer any questions you may have is a positive and worthwhile first step in the process. You will also be able to see our fabulous school, the brilliant facilities we have for our students and gain an understanding of all that we can offer to your child within and beyond the classroom.

After you have applied, our commitment is to make the process as quick and supportive as possible. A priority is making your child feel safe, known and valued and answering any questions, no matter how small, to make their start at Durrington a positive one.

From day 1 we make it a priority to support your son/daughter by:

  • Having a tour of the school to know where their lessons will be (and if possible meet some of their subject teachers).
  • Being buddied up with other students in their form who follow the same timetable
  • Having in place a named tutor and a pastoral leader.  Both of these adults will get to know them and support them as they get to know the school. They will also liaise directly with you to address any questions that come up.
  • Staff taking the time to understand your child as an individual planning for support (if needed) so that they settle as quickly as possible into the rhythm, expectations and community of the school.

Next steps

Please initiate contact with us by completing the form below.  We’ll soon be in touch to arrange a convenient time to meet.

The Durrington High School admissions form can be found by clicking the link below.  We have made this as streamlined as possible. Once submitted, the form will be sent to the admissions team and you will receive a confirmation email to say it has been received.

Thank you for taking the time to read through this page.  We look forward to hearing from you and (hopefully) meeting you in the near future.

Further admission-related information

Durrington High School operates it’s own in-year admissions including the management of our own waiting lists, with the exception of year 6-7 transition admissions.

Upon receiving an application, a first step is to check the form. This is to determine if a referral needs to be put forward to the Fair Access Protocol. Criteria used to determine these referrals will all be considered on an individual basis using information found in appendix 1 of the school admissions policy. If criteria are met, the admission request will be re-directed to WSCC for consideration through the appropriate panel (SEND or Fair Access led)

Please be aware that requests for admissions are only managed during term time.  The admissions policy below provides further details on the oversubscription criteria and processes described above.  Should you have any other questions please do get in contact using admissions@durring.com and a member of the team will be happy to contact you.
