Year 8 trip to the Natural History Museum

On Thursday 2nd July, forty eight Year 8 students enjoyed an exciting and educational visit to the Natural History Museum in London, where they took part in the Our Planet, Our Future: Solutions for Fixing Our Broken Planet workshop.

During the engaging one-hour and forty-five-minute session, students explored how science can help tackle some of the world’s biggest environmental challenges, including climate change. Drawing on the museum’s cutting-edge scientific research, they gathered evidence, developed their critical thinking skills, and learned how to construct persuasive arguments to advocate for solutions that can help protect our planet.

The visit also supported students’ careers education by highlighting the wide range of professions involved in environmental research, conservation, and sustainability. Students discovered how scientists, engineers, conservationists, business leaders and many other professionals work together to ensure our planet continues to thrive for future generations.

This experience reinforced learning from the Year 8 Energy and Climate Change topic while providing a foundation for studies on sustainability. Beyond the workshop, students had the opportunity to explore the museum’s world-renowned exhibits, broadening their knowledge of natural history.

The visit was an inspiring and memorable experience, encouraging students to think critically about the future of our planet and the important role they can play in creating a more sustainable world.
