This term, a group of Year 8 geographers began an exciting work experience project delivered in school by Hemiko. Students were introduced to a real-world challenge: designing a sustainable future for Worthing, linked directly to Hemiko’s work in low-carbon energy and heat networks.
The launch session provided a valuable employer connection, giving students insight into how businesses are tackling environmental challenges and the wide range of careers involved, from engineering and design to project management and sustainability. Engagement was excellent throughout, with students asking thoughtful questions and showing real enthusiasm for the task ahead.
Over the next month, students will develop their competition entries, choosing to present their ideas either as models using sustainable materials or as detailed posters. This project offers a fantastic opportunity to build creativity, problem-solving and presentation skills. We are looking forward to seeing their innovative designs at the final judging and awards event later this term.
