Year 7 visited Arundel Castle as part of their history studies. The students were greeted by a tour guide who led them around the castle grounds and historic rooms. They learned about the castle’s Norman origins, its development over the centuries, and the important role it played in English history.
The tour guide shared stories about the families who lived in the castle and pointed out features such as the Great Hall, the Keep, the oubliette and the beautiful gardens. Students asked thoughtful questions and showed great enthusiasm throughout the visit. The highlight for many was climbing the stone steps up to the Keep, where they enjoyed spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.
The trip was both enjoyable and educational, helping students deepen their understanding of medieval life and castle architecture. Overall, it was a successful day that brought history to life outside the classroom.
Here’s what our fabulous year 7s had to say:
“I really enjoyed the way we got to go around and see all of the defences because they were described so well, and are preserved so well.” Jesse
“I thought the Arundel trip was a really inspiring trip. I learnt lots of new things and we visited lots of interesting rooms, my favourite being the armoury as there were lots of fantastically shaped weapons. It was an amazing experience.” Jacob
“I had a really good experience on the Arundel Castle trip, it was a really good day out and there was so much to see and do.” Isaac
“Looking at all the architecture was really fun and interesting, it’s crazy that is was all carved by hand! There were a lot of beautiful paintings, so I took a bunch of photos to study. We learnt a lot of new things I would never have known if I hadn’t gone. It was a lot of fun!” Bonnie
