I recently had the pleasure of leading 70 of our Year 9 students on a trip to London to see Romeo and Juliet performed at the world-famous Globe Theatre. This was to support students’ study of the play in their English lessons and gave them the opportunity to experience the play in the home of Shakespeare.
After travelling to London by coach, students stood in the Globe’s iconic yard, placing them right at the heart of the action. The production offered a bold and modern interpretation of the play, featuring glitter-filled celebrations, lively and energetic scenes, and even BMX riders performing impressive tricks both on stage and through the crowd. The students thoroughly enjoyed this immersive aspect and were excited to see the action unfold so close to them!
For a lot of the students, it was their first time experiencing live theatre and they all said they found it exciting, whilst also helping to bring the play to life, after studying it in class. I was incredibly proud of how well all 70 students represented the school during the trip.

“The play was good and followed the same story as the original, but it was more modern with the actors wearing tracksuits and having bikes instead of horses. Overall it was a great experience.” Arthur in year 9
