West Sussex Mind Kilo Sale

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am delighted to share with you an exciting whole-school charity initiative that our students are leading this term in support of the local mental health charity West Sussex Mind.

As part of our commitment to community engagement and student leadership, Durrington High School will be taking part in a Kilo Sale fundraising event to support West Sussex Mind’s vital work in helping people in our county with their mental health. West Sussex Mind has been supporting children, young people and adults across West Sussex for over 50 years, providing local mental health support, services and community activities.

What is a Kilo Sale?
A Kilo Sale is a fun and sustainable way of fundraising — second-hand clothes and accessories are donated to the charity and then sold by weight rather than individual prices. Participants fill a bag with donated items and pay according to the total weight, with the proceeds going to support West Sussex Mind’s work in the local community.

At Durrington we are passionate about developing students’ leadership skills, empathy, and a sense of social responsibility. This student-led event supports these values while also giving back to our wider community. Funds raised will help West Sussex Mind expand mental health support – something that affects individuals and families across our county.

If you can we are asking families to donate clean, wearable clothing and accessories for the sale. These items should be in good condition and suitable for re-use so they can be included in the West Sussex Mind Kilo Sale. (West Sussex Mind can accept a wide range of items, including tops, t-shirts, jumpers, trousers, dresses, jeans, skirts, coats, shoes, see full details on their website.)

Collection details:

  • Deadline for donated items: Friday 13th February
  • Where to bring donations: Students should bring items into school and give them to their form tutor during P1.
  • We will also be sharing information in assemblies and during form time to encourage student participation.

We will run a friendly competition between tutor groups to collect the most donations. Students will earn kindness points for contributing, which will count towards their kindness badges and seahorse awards.

We are incredibly proud of our anti-bullying ambassadors for taking the lead on this initiative, and we thank you in advance for your generosity and support. If you have any questions about the event or the donation process, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

Your sincerely,

Nathan Poole
