Our year 7s have started the Summer term studying perimeters, ratios, percentages, coordinates, proportion, types of data and representing data.
“I’m really enjoying maths at Durrington this year, the teachers are very nice, kind and helpful, and it is a good class environment. If you’re ever struggling, the teachers are very helpful if you run into a problem, and never hesitate to challenge yourself.” Ernie in year 7
“I think maths is enjoyable because the teachers do well in making the lessons fun, and make it easy to concentrate and take in the lessons.” Sammy in year 7
Year 8 mathematicians are learning more about ratio and proportion, indices and roots, rounding, probability, reflection and translation, and pie charts.
“I really love doing maths because it is really vital to need in the future for every job you do. I enjoy it because it takes my mind to another place thinking about maths. I personally think it’s very fun.” Izzy in year 8
“I enjoy maths as it always helps me with everyday stuff. It is always a fun lesson because you learn something new everyday.” Maison in year 8
This term year 9 are focusing on sequences, graphs, congruence and similarity. Plus, an introduction to trigonometry, probability, area, ratio and proportion, and constructions.
“I love maths because it’s hard and I love to do problem solving. The teachers are kind, smart and amazing.” Jerome in year 9
“I have always found maths easy and I like to have a challenge in maths. I would like to be a banking accountant in the future and that uses maths a lot. As I said, I just find it fun to problem-solve hard questions.” Ethan in year 9
“I love problem solving, it really challenges my brain and I really like working on hard equations.” Grace in year 9
“I enjoy maths because ever since my childhood I loved problem solving and numbers in general. In the future I am looking forward to having a job related to maths.” Artem in year 9
Our year 10 higher students are deepening their knowledge on a variety of topics including linear graphs, area and perimeter, simultaneous equations, congruence and angles. Whilst our foundation students are studying Pythagoras, trigonometry, displaying and interpreting data, angles, area and perimeter.
“Maths for me at least is the best subject due to the amount of opportunities you gain. It may seem ongoing or difficult at times but trust me it’s amazing.” Pavel in year 10
“I think maths is very fun because it is a good way to exercise the brain and I think it will be a very helpful skill when it comes to finding a job in the future.” Reuben in year 10
The maths department also runs Chess Club and Rubix Cube Club, which take place on a Wednesday lunchtime in G21 and G26. Both clubs are open to all year groups and everyone is welcome to join.
