Year 10 SME

At the start of this term our year 10s were preparing for their work experience placements and this was their focus during their SME lessons as they learnt more about the world of work. This included learning about worker’s rights, health and safety, future career options, and then an in-depth review of their work experience week. During the second half of the Spring term the year 10s learnt about the importance of maintaining their mental health through sleep, exercise and taking time for themselves. They also looked at how to organise their revision and exam preparation to minimise their stress, but also how stress can be an important and healthy part of life if it is managed in a healthy way.

During the Summer term our year 10s topic will cover budgeting, the dangers of borrowing money, how to manage their money and how to plan for financial independence. They will also have a refresher course on sex education, looking again at contraception, healthy relationships, as well as building body confidence and busting myths surrounding sex.

“I like SME because it sets you up for life outside of school such as financial budgeting. SME makes me feel more confident about leaving school – knowing I will be able to manage life on my own.” Amara in year 10
