Our year 9s are looking at the diets of various religions around the world as well as international cuisines. They have been studying food marketing, including product placement, the use of loyalty points, apps and delivery firms, and how this influences our own food choices. They will also look at the current legislation around advertising food products.

The students will learn about micro and macro nutrients and the differences between these two types, how important they are for us to remain healthy and which foodstuffs contain these essential nutrients and vitamins.

They are also learning technical skills by creating their own sauces, pasta dough and shortcrust pastry. Dishes they have made during this rotation include vegetable samosas, quiche and lasagne.
