Dear Parents and Carers
As your child begins the last year of their Durrington journey we want to help make the transition to their next destination as smooth as possible. All young people are required to stay in some form of education till the age of eighteen and there are many options available. This letter gives some important upcoming dates.
Monday 18th September 2023 – Project College Launch
We will be launching Project College in school. This is the launch-pad for students to start their further education journey. Students will be given information packs to take home and share with you. We will also make them available directly to you digitally. The materials will support their onwards journey and will feature details of all the upcoming open events to help all of you support them in planning their college and sixth form visits.
To accompany this, I will also send home a video where I talk about the next steps. It will cover key choices, the application process and a timeline for you to help your child develop their plans and put them into action. We want to encourage students and those supporting them at home to watch this together.
******** Thursday 21st September – Y11 Careers Evening *********
This in school event is key to both you and your child exploring choices. We would like all students to attend, ideally with their parents or carers.
Colleges, schools, businesses, training centers and universities will all be here to meet with you and your young people. We want all our students to have high expectations about what they can achieve and whatever level they reach there will be opportunities out there that will allow them to succeed. It’s a fantastic evening to have so many of these under one roof.
To ease congestion, we have split the evening into two sessions. Please attend your assigned session if possible. We do appreciate that schedules might mean you need to attend the other session. This is not a problem. The most important thing is that everyone comes along.
6pm – 7pm – Students and parents from Attenborough, Pele and Turing
7pm – 8pm – Students and parents from Malala, Seacole and Angelou
8pm – Event Ends
