Half a million minutes – Aspiration Challenge

Dear Parents and Carers,

The Durrington High School Senior Student Leadership Team is proud to announce the beginning of our new aspiration challenge. Aspiration remains a core value of our school and community and is something that we are always keen to enhance within our entire school body. We believe that by aspiring to go beyond our best every single day students can be the best versions of themselves. By having the greatest aspirations students can ensure that they make a positive contribution to our community whilst continuing their own personal development. As you know, Durrington High School always encourages our students to perform beyond their best and we believe that this initiative will help contribute to that.

Our new initiative is called half a million minutes and is designed to encourage all students to collectively contribute in a positive way either to our school community or to themselves as an individual. We are aiming to record half a million minutes of activity that makes a positive impact.. There are a number of ways that students and staff can get involved and we believe this gives everyone the opportunity to participate in some way, shape or form. To help explain this we have produced a grid of possible tasks with time limits clearly outlining ways in which students could contribute towards their own self care, our school community, their environment or even at home. These ideas range from taking more responsibility over organising yourself for school, challenging yourself to read a new book or cooking a meal for the family.

However, we do not want to limit students to just our suggestions which is why we are encouraging all students to record any minutes that they spend at home or at school (outside the classroom) aspiring to be the best versions of themselves. This challenge will also run over half term and will provide an excellent opportunity to “clock up” some more minutes. We understand that many of you will be busy, but even the smallest contribution could help us get to our desired target.

Once students have completed their activity we need them to record the number of minutes they have spent. They have been given a hand out during form time to log this and it can also be found here. The number of minutes will then be collated by form tutors on and in the lead up to the 28th of February where hopefully we will be able to see a greater number of minutes than even half a million.

We believe this challenge represents the best of community and we look forward to your contribution. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Mr Frost.

Thanks in advance

The Senior Student Leadership Team
