Information from SIS: Covid Vaccinations on 28th January 2022

Dear parents/carers,

Covid 19 Vaccinations:  Please disregard this email if your child will still be 11 or will be 16 years old already on 28th January 2022.

As you will be aware students were offered a Covid 19 vaccination in the autumn term in school by the West Sussex School Immunisation Service (SIS).  Their programme has now been extended and a date scheduled for students to receive vaccinations once again.  The SIS have confirmed that they will be offering both 1st and 2nd vaccinations to children at Durrington on Friday 28th January 2022 (two weeks from today).   As normal only those students whose parents / carers have provided consent in will be vaccination.

Although the 28th January is a scheduled  inset day the vaccination program will still take place.  Students who are taking part will need to be at school during their allotted time slot (see below) and on arrival walk round the outside of the building to the Pavilion.   There will be no access to the main building however Durrington staff will be on hand to both supervise and support students with any issues.

Parents/carers are welcome to drop off/collect their child on the day however should not come to the pavilion please as there is limited space and no waiting area.

Year group and allocated time slot information

Yrs 7&8 students: 9-10.30am

Yr 9 students: 11-12pm

Yr 10 students: 12.45-1.45pm

Yr 11 students: 1.45-2.45pm

What to wear

Please can all children students who are taking part in the vaccination program ensure that they wear something short-sleeved on the arm they will receive the vaccination in.  This will ensure the process runs smoothly.

Consent

As a school we understand respect that parents / carers and students are entitled to have differing views on the subject of vaccinating 12-15 year olds.  Whatever your view please be reminded that the school is not responsible or involved in the process of requesting, logging or checking of consent or the giving of the vaccines. The discussion around vaccination and consent is a family matter and the school will not be in the position of offering advice or answer questions relating to the vaccination process.

Attached is a letter directly from Immunisation Service Team. It provides you with the up–to–date information, contact points for questions and details of the how the process works. One particularly important point we would highlight from the letter is that the SIS have asked parents / carers to complete the consent for even if you do not wish your child to be vaccinated. Should you have any further questions (after reading the attached letter) please contact vaccines enquiry team on 0800 433 4545 (open 9am – 4pm, Monday to Friday). Questions should be directed to them and not the school please.

The website to indicate your consent preference is https://www.susseximmunisations.co.uk/Forms/COVIDDose2 using school code: SX140713

Yours Sincerely

Mrs S Dedman

Assistant Headteacher
