Excellence from all, for all. At Durrington High School every member of our team is driven by a passion to ensure each and every student has a happy and successful secondary school experience. We are focused on enabling each student to fulfil their potential, so that when they leave us, they are resilient, confident and assured young people able to succeed in the 21st Century world. We combine a strong emphasis on traditional values of behaviour, instil a work ethic of determination and respect, and have a commitment to evidence informed best practice in teaching and learning, which all sits within a framework of care and support for our students.
We have been delighted to see that working in this way has led to continued and significant improvement in examination results. Our most recent results showed a greater number of students than ever before achieving A*/A grades and 70% of students achieved at least a pass grade in the new GCSE English and mathematics. Whilst this is something we celebrate it also inspires us to continue working relentlessly to improve year after year.
We believe in treating every student as an individual, making sure nobody gets ‘left behind.’ We have a company structure that not only gives each pupil a sense of identity but allows for their well-being and academic progress to be well supported. Working closely with each student and having excellent communication between school and home is also key to ensuring that students thrive and go beyond their best.
In addition to the focus on academic achievement and well-being we believe that enriching learning outside of the classroom is essential to a happy school life. To this end we offer a wealth of after school clubs that are inclusive and offer a wide variety of choice, ensuring all student interests are catered for. We also pride ourselves on the exceptional sport, art, drama and music departments where enjoyment, participation and elite performances are all encouraged. There is also the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of educational visits which have included New York, Florence and Venice as well as closer to home visits to the theatre, the science museum and the V&A, amongst others. The school also participates in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and is in the Premier Division for the national drama and dance competition Rock Challenge.
As one student said ‘I am proud to be a DHS student. I value the opportunities provided because they help us to develop as learners and people.’
The Durrington journey is one of continued success and we look forward to you joining us as we all go ‘beyond our best’.
